Two breathing methods to regulate your nervous system, reduce stress/anxiety, and reduce inflammation.

Dr. R.J. Singer (Chinese Medicine) shares two simple methods of breath-work to regulate your nervous system, reduce stress and anxiety, and reduce inflammation.

1). The sighing method: Ensure your out-breath is longer than your in-breath, and that you make an audible sound. This can be done anytime, multiple times per day, and for as long as needed. If however you start to yawn, or get sleepy, stop. You have done enough.

2). The Reverse Breath of Fire, - strongly regulates the nervous system, and moves gasotransmitters to clear pockets of inflammation through out the body. This is especially good for all types of inflammatory conditions including pain, skin, autoimmune imbalances, etc. Do this lying down, with no distractions, and ensure you have an hour of rest time afterwards to integrate. It is common to feel a sense of euphoria, emotions, and physical sensations during and afterwards. The breathing is through the mouth. Two quick inhalations (first to the lower abdomen, second to the chest), and 1 exhalation out the mouth.

Your mouth will get dry, it will seem difficult at first. It must be done for 20 minutes non-stop at a minimum. You can go longer if you feel that you want to. Commit to doing it once daily, for 1-3 weeks.

I hope you find these two breathwork techniques to regulate the nervous system helpful.
